Nick Burkhardt, a Portland homicide detective, discovers he is a Grimm, the last in a long line of elite criminal profilers tasked with maintaining the balance between humanity and the supernatural. Wesen, terrifying creatures capable of disguising themselves as ordinary humans, are hidden among society. Guided by his dying aunt Marie, Nick learns to see their true monstrous faces, thrusting him into a secretive world of ancient feuds and mythological danger.Initially, Nick tries to balance his dangerous new identity with his police work and his relationship with his veterinarian girlfriend, Juliette Silverton. He soon realizes he needs help and partners with Monroe, a reformed Blutbad (wolf-like Wesen) whose reluctant alliance evolves into a deep, loyal friendship. Together, along with Nick’s partner Hank Griffin—who eventually learns the truth—and police captain Sean Renard, a royal Zauberbiest with his own political agenda, Nick investigates bizarre crimes tied to the Wesen underworld. The overarching narrative escalates as Nick learns he is not just any Grimm, but part of a prophecy tied to the powerful royal families of Europe. These bloodlines seek the "Coins of Zakynthos," ancient artifacts capable of granting immense power, which Nick briefly possesses. The stakes heighten when Juliette is poisoned by a Hexenbiest, leading to a magical coma and a subsequent memory wipe that erases Nick entirely from her mind, fracturing their relationship.Further complications arise when Juliette is transformed into a powerful, vengeful Hexenbiest, alienating Nick and driving a wedge between them. Desperate for a cure, Juliette aligns with the royal families and betrays Nick, culminating in a devastating tragedy when she attempts to kill him and is seemingly slain by Sean's mother. Left heartbroken, Nick is soon shocked to discover Juliette is alive, having been brainwashed and weaponized by a secret government agency known as Hadrian's Wall, alongside a resurrected Eve.As the series reaches its climax, Nick faces the ultimate threat: an apocalyptic prophecy involving a mysterious stick with healing powers and a demonic entity attempting to breach the mortal realm through a subterranean mirror portal. Nick, Monroe, Rosalee, and their inner circle wage a desperate war against this ancient evil, sacrificing much along the way. Ultimately, Nick uses the mystical artifact to rewrite destiny, defeating the entity and restoring his lost loved ones. The story concludes with a flash-forward, showing Nick and his descendants continuing the eternal, sacred duty of the Grimms.
