At the prestigious Kamome Academy, rumors swirl around the Seven School Mysteries, supernatural entities tied to the campus's dark history. The most famous is Hanako-san of the Bathroom, rumored to grant any wish to whoever summons her, at a terrible cost. Seeking romance, first-year student Nene Yashiro summons Hanako, only to discover a shocking truth: Hanako is actually a mischievous young boy. When Nene’s wish backfires, she accidentally swallows a mermaid scale, binding her soul to Hanako as his supernatural human assistant. To break her curse and survive, Nene must work as his janitor, cleaning the haunted girls' bathroom while navigating the bizarre spirit world.Their partnership quickly deepens as they confront rogue apparitions threatening the delicate balance between the living and the dead. They are soon joined by Kou Minamoto, an enthusiastic exorcist-in-training belonging to a legendary lineage of supernatural hunters. Although Kou initially views Hanako as a malevolent ghost needing extermination, he gradually realizes Hanako is deeply troubled and protective of the school. Together, the trio investigates the School Mysteries, discovering that each entity guards a powerful rumor that defines its existence. When Hanako alters these rumors, he alters their fates, a heavy duty meant to prevent the entities from going rogue and harming students.Darker secrets soon emerge regarding Hanako’s past. It is revealed that Hanako was once a living human boy named Amane Yugi who died under mysterious, tragic circumstances, having brutally murdered his twin brother, Tsukasa, before his own death. This haunting revelation strains Nene and Kou’s trust, yet their unwavering bond compels them to stand by Hanako. Complicating matters further, Tsukasa appears as a malevolent spirit, accompanied by powerful supernatural allies like Natsuhiko and Sakura. Unlike Hanako, who seeks to maintain peace between humans and apparitions, Tsukasa thrives on chaos, manipulating rumors to force tragic outcomes and tormenting Hanako by weaponizing their painful shared history. The stakes escalate dramatically when Nene discovers a horrifying truth about her own curse: the mermaid scale is slowly draining her life force, and she has less than a year left to live. Desperate to save her, Hanako pushes Nene away to protect her, but she refuses to abandon him. As Tsukasa amplifies his attacks, warping the school's boundaries into lethal traps, Hanako is forced to unleash his full, terrifying power as the leader of the Seven Mysteries. In the ultimate clash of wills and destiny, Hanako and Nene must confront their intertwined fates, battling not only malevolent spirits and tragic memories, but the cruel inevitability of time itself, all while fighting for a future where they can truly be together.
