In Bristol, England, seven diverse strangers from vastly different walks of life find themselves thrown together under a court-mandated community payback order. The group includes Rani, a fiercely academic overachiever hiding a rebellious streak; Christian, a brooding young man trying to protect his younger sister from a brutal street gang; John, a pompous, insecure conservative businessman; Myrna, a passionate, aging civil rights activist; Greg, a perpetually anxious lawyer facing personal ruin; Lady Gabriella, a vapid, self-absorbed socialite battling substance abuse; and Frank, a charming, manipulative con man desperately trying to reconnect with his
estranged daughter.Supervised by the weary and cynical officers Diane and Tony, the unlikely crew is tasked with renovating a derelict community center. Their initial friction and mutual distrust are violently upended when Christian hides a bag of stolen drug money inside the building. The cash belongs to the Dean, the ruthless and sadistic leader of the Bristol heroin trade known as the "Brook Hilles Gang."When Christian's loyalties fracture, the outlaws inadvertently become entangled in the
criminal underworld. The Dean targets the group, forcing them to rely on one another for survival. Despite their immense personal differences, the outlaws form a makeshift alliance, using their unique, disparate skills—ranging from Greg’s legal knowledge to Frank’s underworld savvy—to outmaneuver the gangsters. As the tension escalates, individual secrets are dragged into the light. Rani steals from her wealthy family to help Christian, while Frank attempts to orchestrate a double-cross that will secure both his freedom and a massive payout. The pressure peaks when a member of the gang is murdered, and the outlaws are forced to conspire to cover up the crime, binding them together in a dangerous web of conspiracy. Diane, sensing something is deeply amiss, begins closing in on the truth, creating a tense cat-and-mouse dynamic between the law and the reluctant criminals. As the series progresses, the characters undergo profound transformations. They shed their prejudices, finding genuine empathy and friendship within the crucible of their shared peril. They successfully pull off a high-stakes laundering scheme to neutralize the Dean's financial leverage, temporarily securing their safety. However, the victory is precarious. Leaving a trail of forged documents, hidden bodies, and unresolved gang warfare behind them, the outlaws realize that while they have completed their community service hours, they are forever linked by the blood, crimes, and secrets that transpired during their time together.
