Set in a cavernous, dimly lit Parisian theater, Thomas Novachek, a frustrated playwright and director, is at his wit's end after a grueling day of auditions. He has failed to find a leading actress capable of embodying Vanda, the fierce and dominant heroine of his new adaptation of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s notorious 1870 novel, *Venus in Fur*. Desperate to leave, Thomas is suddenly interrupted by the arrival of Vanda Jordan, a wildly eccentric, vulgar, and seemingly chaotic actress who bursts into the space soaking wet and demanding an immediate chance to read for the part, despite arriving hours late.Initially dismissive, Thomas relents just to appease her and get her out of his hair. However, the moment Vanda steps behind the prop table and dons a simple leather bustier, a mesmerizing
transformation takes place. She sheds her clumsy persona and adopts a sophisticated, commanding articulation, effortlessly nailing the dialogue. Thomas is instantly captivated, yet he soon grows unsettled by how deeply Vanda relates to the material. She questions his artistic choices, challenging the patriarchal undertones of his script and arguing that the original character possessed far more agency than Thomas has written. As the audition progresses into the evening, the boundary between reality and fiction begins to blur dangerously. The play within a movie tells the tale of Severin, a man who begs a noblewoman named Venus to enslave him, but in the rehearsal space, the power dynamic rapidly shifts. Vanda begins directing Thomas, forcing him to physically act out the submissive role of Severin while she takes total control as the sadistic dominatrix.Fuelled by wine, exhaustion, and rising
sexual tension, psychological games give way to raw power struggles. Thomas finds himself completely enthralled and humiliated by Vanda, who exposes his hypocrisies, fragile male ego, and hidden fetishes. During these intense role-playing sessions, Vanda's identity grows increasingly ambiguous. Is she merely a brilliant, highly prepared actress, or is she an embodiment of the mythical goddess of love and vengeance herself? The climax reaches a fever pitch of theatrical fury and erotic domination. Vanda exacts symbolic retribution for all the women manipulated by men in the arts. By the time the night ends, Thomas is thoroughly broken, chained to a golden post in submission, utterly dominated. Vanda sheds her costume, ascends into a cage high above the stage bathed in divine light, and leaves a defeated Thomas behind, completing her mysterious, mythical ascension.
