Dasan is a deeply insecure, uneducated, and physically unremarkable young man living in a traditional Kerala village. Burdened by an acute
inferiority complex regarding his looks and lack of sophistication, he constantly suspects that others are mocking him behind his back. Despite his profound self-doubt, he manages to marry Shobha, a beautiful, well-educated, and gentle young woman. Instead of finding comfort in her love, Dasan’s insecurities escalate into a toxic obsession. He becomes utterly convinced that Shobha is too good for him and that she must secretly desire other men, setting the stage for a psychological descent into severe paranoia.Driven by his pathological jealousy, Dasan begins to monitor Shobha’s every move. He interrogates her about trivial interactions, misinterprets innocent neighborly conversations as flirtations, and creates elaborate scenarios of betrayal in his mind. Shobha, patient and deeply devoted, tries her best to reassure him, altering her behavior and cutting ties with others to appease his fragile ego. However, her submissiveness only fuels his suspicion, as Dasan interprets her compliance as guilt rather than affection. He refuses to consummate the marriage properly, fearing inadequacy, and instead turns his home into a psychological prison for his wife. The emotional abuse intensifies when Dasan enlists his simple-minded friend, Kumaran, to spy on Shobha. This degrading act destroys whatever mutual respect was left in the household. Dasan’s behavior spirals out of control, leading to
public humiliation and erratic outbursts that alienate him from the community. Despite the mounting trauma, Shobha endures the torment, hoping for a breakthrough in her husband's mental state. The tension reaches a boiling point when Dasan’s hallucinations and irrational fears completely sever his grip on reality. He accuses her of infidelity with various men in the village, culminating in explosive confrontations that frighten both Shobha and the neighbors.Realizing that Dasan is suffering from a severe psychological disorder rather than simple malice, family members finally intervene, urging him to seek professional psychiatric help. The narrative exposes the dark underbelly of patriarchal insecurity, illustrating how a man’s internal demons can completely destroy a loving partnership. The film concludes on a somber, reflective note as Dasan is forced to confront the wreckage of his own making, acknowledging that his relentless paranoia and self-loathing were the true enemies that sabotaged his happiness. Shobha is left picking up the emotional pieces, while Dasan faces a long, uncertain road to psychological rehabilitation, stripped of his bravado and left entirely alone with the terrifying reality of his own mind.
