Years after the initial
subterranean monster attacks in Perfection, Nevada, Earl Bassett has fallen on hard times. Despite his local fame, his ostrich farm venture has failed, leaving him broke. His former partner, Burt Gummer, has retreated into paranoid isolation, obsessed with preparing for apocalyptic scenarios. The tranquility is shattered when giant, carnivorous worm-like creatures, dubbed Graboids, resurface in Mexico at an isolated oil field, ruthlessly slaughtering workers.Desperate for financial salvation and convinced of his expertise, Earl is approached by Pedroオイル company representative Carlos Ortega and academic geologist Kate Reilly. They offer Earl a substantial fifty thousand dollars per dead monster. Realizing he cannot handle the subterranean menace alone, Earl reluctantly recruits Burt Gummer, who arrives hauling an arsenal of military-grade weaponry.Upon arriving at the desolate Mexican oil fields, the team discovers the situation is far graver than anticipated. The Graboids have mutated, evolving into a terrifying new biological stage. Dubbed "Shriekers," these new creatures no longer require burrowing to hunt. They hatch from the Graboid life cycle as vicious, bipedal beasts that track prey using thermal imaging rather than seismic vibrations. Furthermore, they reproduce asexually at an alarming, exponential rate when consuming calories, turning a simple pest-control mission into a desperate
race against time. The team's scientific equipment and firearms are quickly overwhelmed as the relentless Shriekers breach their fortified compounds and trap them on top of oil derricks and vehicles. Burt and Earl must rely on their ingenuity, improvising thermal-disruption tactics using fire extinguishers and heavy machinery to mask their body heat from the creatures. Despite losing their vehicles and facing mounting casualties, including the tragic loss of Ortega, the survivors refuse to surrender.Recognizing that the Shriekers are marching toward nearby populated areas, Burt and Earl orchestrate a daring counter-offensive. They lure the ravenous pack into a massive, centralized kill zone, utilizing explosives and Burt’s heavy weaponry to obliterate the nest before the monsters can multiply beyond control. With the horde finally eradicated, the dust settles, and Kate and Earl share a budding romance, while a wealthier Earl embraces a quieter future, having successfully conquered his past demons and a vastly superior breed of subterranean terror once and for all.
