Set in a dystopian near-future America, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) continue their annual tradition known as the Purge, a twelve-hour period where all crime, including murder, is legal. Senator Charlie Roan, having lost her entire family to a previous Purge, runs for president on a platform promising to abolish the night of sanctioned violence, which she views as a tool utilized by the wealthy elite to systematically eliminate the impoverished and lower classes. Threatened by her surging popularity, the ruling NFFA cabal, led by Minister Eder Owens, plots to eliminate her before the election. As the annual Purge commences, Senator Roan decides to stay at her suburban home rather than hide in a secure bunker, hoping to show solidarity with everyday citizens and defying security protocols. However, her chief of security, former police sergeant Leo Barnes, discovers that her security detail has been compromised by traitors in league with the government. Betrayed from within, Barnes fights off a heavily armed neo-Nazi hit squad sent to assassinate the Senator. Forced onto the perilous Washington, D.C. streets, Barnes and Roan must navigate a city plunged into absolute lawlessness, dodging bloodthirsty gangs and international "murder tourists" who travel to America specifically to participate in the carnage.Meanwhile, Joe Dante, a local bodega owner, works tirelessly to protect his small business alongside his employee, Marcos. They are joined by Laney Rucker, a former gang member turned vigilante paramedic who drives an armored van providing medical aid to victims caught in the crossfire. When Joe’s store is targeted by violent teenage shoplifters, Barnes and Roan serendipitously cross paths with Joe and Laney. Together, the mismatched survivors form a protective alliance, relying on grit, resourcefulness, and fierce loyalty to survive the endless waves of hostility. The group seeks refuge in an underground sanctuary run by anti-Purge resistance fighters led by Dwayne Bishop. However, the NFFA tracks them down, infiltrating the hideout and capturing Senator Roan. Desperate to prevent the eradication of hope for a better America, Barnes and the resistance launch a daring, high-stakes rescue mission into a heavily fortified cathedral where Owens and the NFFA elite are holding a mock religious-political execution. In a chaotic shootout, Barnes and his allies disrupt the ceremony, execute the corrupt leaders, and save Roan just in time. The film concludes with Roan winning the presidential election in a landslide, officially ending the Purge and bringing a glimmer of justice back to a fractured nation.
