Barely escaping on a small wooden boat, the traumatized boy vows a fierce oath of vengeance: "I will avenge you, Father. I will save you, Mother. I will kill you, Fjölnir."Years later, Amleth has transformed into a ferocious berserker, living among a violent band of Slavic raiders. After participating in a brutal village sacking, he encounters a Seeress who reminds him of his destiny. Learning that Fjölnir was subsequently overthrown by a rival king and now lives as an impoverished sheep farmer in Iceland, Amleth seizes his opportunity. Posing as a captured slave, he infiltrates Fjölnir’s remote volcanic estate, concealing his true identity and lethal intentions.During his grueling enslavement, Amleth navigates the harsh daily labor while secretly laying the groundwork for his retribution. He earns the trust of Fjölnir's family, including Olga of the Birch Forest, a cunning Slavic sorceress who becomes his lover and ally. Queen Gudrun reveals that she was never kidnapped; rather, she despised Aurvandill and orchestrated his murder herself, viewing Fjölnir as a true husband and father to her new son, Gunnar. This revelation shatters Amleth's worldview, testing his resolve. Nonetheless, driven by his unwavering blood-oath, he rescues Olga from execution and prepares for the final, inevitable confrontation.Guided by a mystical sword found in a burial mound, Amleth confronts Fjölnir at the Gates of Hel—the bubbling, sulfurous lava fields of the volcano.
