In October 1994, optimistic film students Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard, and Michael Williams venture into the dense, foggy woods of Burkittsville, Maryland. Their ambitious goal is to shoot a documentary about the local legend of the Blair Witch, a vengeful entity rumored to have cursed the surrounding wilderness for centuries. Initially, the trio interviews eccentric local residents who share chilling accounts of missing children and bizarre paranormal occurrences. Driven by youthful arrogance and a determination to capture compelling footage, the students dismiss the ominous warnings and push deeper into the forbidding forest, confident they are merely debunking local folklore. As they hike further off the beaten path, the atmosphere rapidly deteriorates. Their confidence shatters on the second night when unseen entities begin stalking their campsite, terrorizing them with mysterious snapping twigs, chilling rustling noises, and terrifying, unearthly screams echoing through the pitch-black darkness. Panic quickly sets in the following morning when Heather discovers her map is missing. Desperate to escape, the exhausted students attempt to retrace their steps back to civilization, only to realize they are trapped in an inescapable loop. Despite following a compass south, they inexplicably find themselves returning to the exact same river.Internal tensions explode into explosive paranoia and bitter recriminations. Josh blames Heather's relentless obsession with the project for their predicament, while Mike struggles to maintain his sanity as the
psychological torment mounts. Their supplies dwindle to dangerous levels, and the supernatural harassment escalates dramatically. Every morning brings fresh horrors: strange stick figures hang from the high tree branches, ominous rock piles mysteriously appear outside their tents overnight, and Josh's personal equipment is sabotaged. The psychological breaking point occurs when Josh mysteriously vanishes during the night, leaving Heather and Mike utterly devastated and terrified. Driven by desperate grief and sheer terror, the remaining pair continues searching. They stumble upon a decaying, abandoned rustic house deep in the woods—the infamous site where a local hermit, Rustin Parr, tortured and murdered several children decades earlier under the psychic influence of the witch.Inside the crumbling, dust-choked house, frantic
paranormal activity reaches a fever pitch. Mike hears the agonizing, desperate cries of Josh echoing from the basement and rushes down blindly. Suddenly, Mike is violently attacked by an unseen force, dropping his camera as he falls to the floor. Heather frantically rushes after him, her camera wildly capturing frantic, disoriented shots of the basement before she, too, is violently struck down. The screen abruptly cuts to black, leaving their ultimate fate and the terrifying truth of the Blair Witch shrouded in chilling ambiguity.
