Set during the course of a single afternoon, *Soft & Quiet* follows Emily, an elementary school teacher harboring extremist white supremacist views, as she orchestrates a gathering of like-minded women. She organizes a meeting for a newly formed sorority-like group called the "Daughters for Aryan Unity." They encounter two young Asian-American sisters, Miho and Anne, who are shopping for wine. A confrontation ensues when Emily and Marjorie corner the sisters in an aisle, hurling racist insults at them. The argument turns physical when Miho defends herself by splashing wine on Emily.
