Based on the 2014 Australian science fiction film, the plot of 'Predestination' revolves around the life of a Temporal Agent working for a secret organization known as the 'Union'. The agent, John, played by Ethan Hawke, is tasked with preventing a catastrophic event from occurring, while struggling with the consequences of his mission. The story begins in 1975 with John trying to prevent a terrorist bombing at a New York City bar. However, during the mission, he inadvertently causes the event he was trying to prevent. Confused and frustrated, John seeks the help of a mysterious bartender, Jane, played by Sarah Snook, who turns out to be a temporal agent herself. She guides John to the Temporal Agent's organization and reveals that his actions have inadvertently caused a chain of events that led to the creation of the terrorist responsible for the bombing. As the story unfolds, John's backstory is revealed, showcasing the events that led him to become a temporal agent. He is revealed to be a person who was previously a young boy named 'The Unmarried Mother's Child', who was born out of wedlock and was the target of a terrorist bombing. However, his mother, a bartender, was informed about the impending attack and managed to save him.Through a series of complex time-travel events, it is revealed that John's actions as a temporal agent created a closed timelike curve, where his past self is responsible for the creation of the terrorist, who in turn is responsible for the events that led to John's creation as a temporal agent. This creates a paradox where John's actions are predetermined, and he is unable to change the course of events.Throughout the film, John struggles with the concept of predestination and free will, as he realizes that his actions are not entirely his own. The film raises questions about the nature of time travel and the consequences of altering the timeline, leading to a thought-provoking conclusion that challenges the audience's understanding of the story.
