Set in the freezing, isolated
Canadian wilderness of the early nineteenth century, the film follows orphaned teenage sisters Brigitte and Ginger Fitzgerald. Desperate to escape the unforgiving elements, the siblings stumble upon a remote fur-trading fort. However, the outpost is far from a sanctuary; it is populated by a paranoid, superstitious, and deeply hostile group of rough-hewn men who immediately view the newcomers with suspicion and hostility. As night falls, the fort comes under a terrifying and relentless siege by a pack of savage, supernatural wolves. During the bloody chaos of the initial attack, Ginger is viciously mauled and bitten by one of the monstrous beasts. Determined to save her sister at any cost, Brigitte hides the gruesome wound from the treacherous fort inhabitants, knowing the superstitious men would execute Ginger instantly.Driven by survival instincts, the sisters try to navigate the mounting paranoia within the fort's wooden walls, where the surviving fur traders are rapidly turning on one another due to fear, cabin fever, and dwindling rations. Meanwhile, Ginger begins to undergo a horrifying physical and psychological transformation. The infection from the werewolf bite unleashes a dormant, feral predator within her. Her senses sharpen, her aggression spikes, and she develops a ravenous, insatiable hunger for raw meat.Brigitte desperately searches for a cure among the fort's meager supplies, but her efforts prove futile as Ginger’s humanity steadily slips away. The once-close sisters find their bond severely tested. Ginger embraces her newfound monstrous power, viewing the curse not as a disease, but as a liberation from the constraints of civilized society. The brutal environment of the frontier mirrors her internal savagery. The tension reaches a boiling point when the treacherous frontiersmen discover Ginger's condition and attempt to execute both sisters, seeing them as unholy abominations. Violence erupts within the confines of the fort. In the bloody climax, the remaining human inhabitants are systematically slaughtered either by the rampaging werewolf pack outside or by Ginger herself, who has fully transitioned into a feral beast. With the fort burning to the ground and everyone else dead, Brigitte faces an agonizing choice. Realizing that Ginger can never return to her human self and that she cannot survive the harsh winter alone, Brigitte makes the ultimate sacrifice. In a tragic and heartbreaking final confrontation, she fatally wounds her sister to end the nightmare. As the snow falls heavily over the smoking ruins, a mortally wounded Brigitte accepts her own
inevitable fate, succumbing to the harsh wilderness and the lingering bite of the curse, forever binding the fates of the two sisters in blood and tragedy.
