In fifteenth-century Transylvania, Vlad III, known as the fierce former impaler prince, rules his homeland with a fragile peace alongside his devoted wife, Mirena, and young son, Ingeras. This delicate stability shatters when scouts from the expanding Ottoman Empire, led by the ruthless Sultan Mehmed II, demand a heavy tribute: one thousand boys, including Ingeras, to be conscripted into the Turkish army. Driven by a desperate refusal to surrender his son to the same fate he once suffered, Vlad seeks a desperate solution. He ventures up the treacherous slopes of Broken Tooth Mountain to consult a terrifying ancient vampire residing in a hidden cave. The ancient creature offers Vlad a Faustian bargain: the power of the darkness for three days. If Vlad can resist his overwhelming thirst for human blood during this period, he will revert to his mortal self; otherwise, he will remain a creature of the night forever. Vlad accepts, drinking the vampire’s cursed blood and instantly gaining superhuman strength, speed, and the ability to command swarms of bats. Returning to his kingdom, Vlad uses his terrifying new abilities to single-handedly slaughter an entire scouting party of a thousand Turkish soldiers, saving his people and declaring open war on the Sultan. However, Mehmed retaliates with a massive army, laying siege to Castle Dracula while Vlad is away. As the castle falls, Mirena plunges from the battlements in a fatal attempt to save her son. Just as she dies, Vlad arrives too late, and in her final moments, she begs him to drink her blood so he can save Ingeras. Overcome by grief and fury, Vlad drinks, cementing his permanent transformation into a full vampire. Empowered by this ultimate sacrifice, Vlad unleashes a devastating assault, slaughtering the remaining Ottoman forces and killing Mehmed in a brutal duel using a silver coin.Victorious yet damned, Vlad is discovered by a mysterious man who witnessed his transformation. The surviving townspeople, horrified by his monstrous nature, turn on him. Weakened by the daytime sun and betrayed by his own subjects, Vlad is seemingly destroyed. However, the immortal vampire who originally cursed him revives Vlad in the modern era, where he encounters a woman bearing a striking resemblance to Mirena, setting the stage for an eternal, lingering shadow of destiny.
