The narrative centers on
the aftermath of the harrowing Natagumo Mountain battle, shifting the focus from frontline combat to the high-stakes political and judicial tribunal of the Demon Slayer Corps. Tanjiro Kamado, a young slayer who has broken core regulations by traveling with his demon sister, Nezuko, is brought in chains before the formidable elite warriors known as the Hashira. The primary conflict of the arc is the moral and ideological clash regarding Nezuko's existence. The fierce Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa, driven by a brutal, trauma-induced hatred of all demons, vehemently demands the immediate execution of both Tanjiro and his sister. Sanemi aggressively provokes Nezuko, going so far as to stab her inside her wooden box to force her into a blood-lusting frenzy, testing Tanjiro’s claims that she has never consumed human flesh. Meanwhile, the stoic Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka, and the eccentric former Hashira, Sakonji Urokodaki, face intense scrutiny and potential
ritual suicide for staking their lives on Nezuko’s harmlessness.Amidst the tense deliberations, the enigmatic and terminally ill leader of the Corps, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, arrives. His serene presence and profound empathy immediately command the room. He presents a compelling letter from Urokodaki, swearing that if Nezuko ever attacks a human, Giyu, Urokodaki, and Tanjiro will commit seppuku as penance. Furthermore, Kagaya reveals a critical piece of intelligence: Muzan Kibutsuji, the progenitor of all demons, is desperately hunting Tanjiro, indirectly linking the siblings to the ultimate defeat of their mutual enemy. While the majority of the Hashira eventually agree to observe Nezuko under probation, Sanemi remains completely unconvinced, openly defying the Master's leniency. The dramatic tension peaks when the ultimate authority, Kagaya, sways the remaining skeptics, including the flamboyant Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui, and the passionate Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku. The arc culminates in a resolution of cautious acceptance, granting Tanjiro a temporary reprieve and a monumental goal: to train relentlessly and prove his worth among the elite. Tanjiro is subsequently taken to the Butterfly Mansion to recover from his injuries alongside his surviving comrades, Zenitsu and Inosuke. As the Hashira disperse to prepare for impending, larger-scale conflicts against the Twelve Kizuki, the stage is forcefully set for future escalations, leaving Tanjiro acutely aware of the vast power gap he must bridge to protect his sister and avenge his slaughtered family.
