John Constantine, a cynical occult detective and exorcist dying of terminal lung cancer due to a lifetime of heavy smoking, navigates a world where half-angels and half-demons walk the Earth in a delicate balance between Heaven and Hell. Condemned to Hell for attempting suicide in his youth, Constantine desperately seeks redemption to bypass eternal damnation, performing harsh exorcisms to earn spiritual grace, though Heaven’s representatives like the half-angel Gabriel deny him, declaring his motives purely selfish.Meanwhile, LAPD Detective Angela Dodson investigates the apparent suicide of her twin sister, Isabel, who leapt from a hospital roof. Knowing Isabel was a devout Catholic who abhorred suicide, Angela refuses to accept the official verdict. She crosses paths with Constantine, who recognizes her psychic sensitivity and realizes demonic forces are actively hunting her. Constantine discovers that Mammon, the rebellious son of Lucifer, plots to cross over into the mortal realm by using a powerful psychic medium—Isabel, and now Angela—as a conduit, backed by the Spear of Destiny, the holy relic that pierced Jesus. As supernatural threats escalate, Constantine and Angela uncover a horrifying conspiracy. Father Beeman, Constantine’s weapons and lore expert, is brutally murdered by an unseen demonic entity, and Balthazar, a scheming demon, reveals that Mammon is breaking the rules of the divine truce with Lucifer’s tacit approval. To stop the impending apocalypse, Constantine and Angela locate the Spear of Destiny hidden inside Isabel’s body. However, Angela is possessed by Mammon just as the ritual to birth the demon into the physical world begins.Realizing conventional combat is useless, Constantine slits his own wrists, committing suicide once more. This desperate act summons Lucifer himself to personally collect Constantine’s soul. Before Lucifer can drag him down, Constantine exposes Mammon’s coup, tricking the Devil into discovering his son’s treachery. Enraged, Lucifer banishes Mammon back to Hell. In gratitude, Lucifer offers to grant Constantine any wish. Instead of asking for a cure for his cancer or a guaranteed passage to Heaven, Constantine selflessly asks Lucifer to release Isabel’s soul from Hell and send her to Heaven.Impressed by this ultimate act of self-sacrifice, Lucifer pulls Constantine into the light, curing his cancer and granting him a second chance at life to prove his worth. Constantine survives, quits smoking, and steps into a hopeful future, knowing his eternal fate is once again back in his own hands.
