The Gardner family relocates from the bustling city to a secluded, picturesque farm in rural New England, seeking a peaceful retreat. Nathan, the patriarch, throws himself into agricultural endeavors, specifically attempting to cultivate exotic alpacas, while his wife, Theresa, recovers from a debilitating bout of cancer. Their teenage daughter, Lavinia, dabbles in Wiccan rituals, and their younger sons, Benny and Jack, navigate the isolation of the countryside. Their quiet existence is abruptly shattered one fateful night when a vibrant, iridescent meteorite crashes onto their front lawn, glowing with a bizarre, mesmerizing hue that seems to defy the laws of the color spectrum.Initially, the family is captivated, but scientist Ward and local sheriff Burroughs soon investigate the strange landing site, noting unsettling anomalies. The meteorite eventually dissolves into the earth, but its otherworldly influence lingers, seeping into the surrounding ecosystem. The local flora and fauna begin to mutate rapidly, transforming into grotesque, brilliantly colored abominations. Fruits taste violently bitter, trees sprout hallucinogenic blossoms, and insects swarm in terrifying, synchronized formations. As the contamination deepens, the family's psychological states begin to fracture. Nathan grows increasingly volatile and erratic, while Theresa struggles with phantom pains and sensory overload. One afternoon, while preparing dinner, Theresa suffers a horrific accident made worse by her deteriorating coordination. Rushed into the house alongside Theresa, Jack is placed in the attic to recover. The extraterrestrial entity begins to warp space and time, dissolving the boundaries of reality. Nathan, losing his grip on sanity, attempts to keep his family safe, but the strange colors act like a malevolent hive mind, draining the vitality of every living thing it touches. The climax brings unspeakable horror. Nathan locks his mutated family members in the attic, desperately trying to hide the monstrous amalgamation they have become. When Ezra, a local hermit, goes missing, Ward returns to the farm, only to step into a waking nightmare. The entity reveals its true, terrifying nature, merging Theresa and Jack into a single, agonizing entity that ultimately perishes. As the house and landscape are completely consumed by a blinding pillar of unearthly light, the color communicates a silent, cosmic indifference. Nathan is accidentally shot by the sheriff during the chaotic final moments, dying as the farm is completely obliterated. The film closes with Ward looking over the desolate, ash-covered crater, left profoundly haunted by the realization that Earth is merely a brief pit stop for ancient, cosmic horrors operating on a scale beyond human comprehension.
