She reunites with her former best friend, Maria Rambeau, and discovers the truth about her past: she was Carol Danvers, a courageous U.S. Air Force pilot who was presumed dead after a test flight went awry. Carol realizes that the explosion she survived was caused by an experimental engine powered by the Tesseract, which absorbed the energy into her body. She taps into the full, suppressed potential of her cosmic power, becoming the titular Captain Marvel. In a climactic showdown, she destroys the Kree fleet, forcing Yon-Rogg to retreat to Hala with a stern warning. After ensuring the safety of her allies and helping the Skrulls find a new home, Carol leaves Earth to serve as a beacon of protection for the galaxy. She leaves behind a pager for Fury, a symbolic bridge between worlds that ensures he can reach her should humanity ever face a threat it cannot handle alone.
