Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

Following her explosive breakup with the Joker, Harley Quinn navigates Gotham City unprotected, realizing the sheer number of enemies she has made who previously feared her retaliation. Seeking independence, Harley blows up Ace Chemicals, a symbolic act that accidentally broadcasts to the criminal underworld that she is no longer under the Joker’s protection. Instantly, Gotham’s ruthless crime lord Roman Sionis, also known as the Black Mask, targets her. Desperate to save her own skin, Harley offers to retrieve a stolen, highly valuable diamond containing the encrypted bank accounts of the late Bertinelli crime family. The diamond was stolen by a cunning young street urchin named Cassandra Cain, who inadvertently swallowed it.Meanwhile, Gotham City Police Department detective Renee Montoya investigates a series of vigilante killings attributed to a mysterious "Crossbow Killer," recognizing the pattern as the work of Helena Bertinelli, the sole surviving heir seeking vengeance for her family's slaughter. Concurrently, Dinah Lance, a talented singer working at Sionis’s club, catches the villain's eye and is appointed as his new driver, though she secretly uses her position to help the oppressed. Sionis dispatches his sadistic right-hand man, Victor Zsasz, to capture Harley after she snatches Cassandra.Harley successfully tracks down Cassandra, but they are soon ambushed. Dinah, feeling guilty, tips off Montoya, while Helena—operating as the Crossbow Killer—also converges on the scene to eliminate targets connected to the diamond. Pinned down in an abandoned amusement park, Harley, Dinah, Helena, and Montoya are forced into an uneasy alliance when Sionis arrives with an army of heavily armed mercenaries, furious that Harley failed to deliver the gem.Utilizing their unique skills, the women engage in a chaotic, acrobatic battle against Sionis's forces. Dinah reveals her metahuman sonic scream, obliterating the attackers, while Helena utilizes her lethal crossbow skills and Harley employs her chaotic combat style. Zsasz is killed during the skirmish, and Sionis flees, taking Cassandra hostage. Harley gives chase on roller skates towed by Helena’s motorcycle. They corner Sionis on a nearby pier, where Cassandra slips a live grenade into Sionis’s jacket pocket just before Harley blasts him into the air, ending his reign of terror.In the aftermath, with Sionis dead and their criminal records wiped clean by Montoya—who subsequently quits the corrupt GCPD—Harley and Helena pool the diamond's recovered funds to establish their own independent agency. Partnering with Dinah and Cassandra, the newly formed vigilante team, officially dubbed the Birds of Prey, embarks on a fresh chapter of empowerment, crime-fighting, and absolute chaos in Gotham City, fully emancipated from the men who once controlled them.
