Wanda Saknussemm is a timid, klutzy, bespectacled young woman living in Los Angeles, constantly overshadowed by her domineering, adventurous archaeologist father, Professor Arnold Saknussemm. When her father disappears during an expedition to Africa, Wanda is determined to find him. She travels to the site and, while exploring a mysterious cavern, accidentally triggers a rockfall that plunges her through the earth’s crust.Wanda plummets deep underground into Atlantis, a bizarre, technologically advanced subterranean civilization that has been isolated from the surface world for millennia.
Dazed and confused, she is immediately captured by the brutal, totalitarian authorities of this underground realm. Because of her bizarre clothing, strange surface-dweller accent, and general bewilderment, the paranoid locals mistake her for an
extraterrestrial invader. The ruthless Chancellor and his corrupt security forces view this "Alien from L.A." as a threat to their subterranean society, and a high-stakes manhunt is quickly initiated to capture or destroy her.Desperate to survive and find her way home, Wanda flees into the sprawling, neon-lit labyrinth of the subterranean city. Along her perilous journey, she transforms from a meek wallflower into a resourceful and daring survivor. She encounters a colorful cast of eccentric Atlanteans, most notably a charismatic, cynical rebel named Pete. Pete recognizes that Wanda is just a confused human and takes pity on her, deciding to help her evade the authorities. Together, they navigate the dangerous underbelly of Atlantis, dodging trigger-happy guards, navigating treacherous terrain, and uncovering the dark secrets of the city's oppressive regime. As Wanda and Pete grow closer, they learn that Professor Saknussemm is not only alive but has been captured by the Chancellor’s forces for discovering a powerful energy source. Fueled by a newfound courage, Wanda motivates the downtrodden lower-class rebels to stage an uprising against the fascist government. In a chaotic climax, Wanda leads a raid on the Chancellor’s stronghold. She successfully rescues her father, helps the rebels overthrow the corrupt leadership, and exposes the truth of her identity—proving she is merely a concerned daughter, not an alien threat. With peace restored to Atlantis and her bond with Pete solidified, Wanda faces a major life choice: return to her mundane, boring life in Los Angeles, or embrace a thrilling new destiny as an adventurer in the magnificent underground world.
